Why are Italians (with the exception of web professionals) considering Facebook the one and only social platform?

Christian Contardi added an answer.

Well, thanks to everybody for answers, but I don't think that it is a matter of reach. First of all Nielsen (http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenw…) discovered that Italians are spending more than others in monthly hours for social. Second: Facebook is simply transferring social networks on the web, we're not talking about “social networking” because no one is going in Facebook to find new friends, they are only using another platform to keep in touch with real friends. I was quite curious to read foreign opinions regarding this phenomenon and, believe me, if we consider culture the only result could be that it is impossible for Italians not to communicate.
